We traveled From Michigan to Arizona with a travel time of three days and stopped overnight twice. We were taking frozen meat and set the temperature to 0 to keep the meat frozen solid. We turned it off at night so not to run the car battery down. It worked great and the highest temp I saw was 5degrees. Our car is pretty small or I would have liked a larger unit. Satisfied so far!
Pack it carefully as it will freeze things that are in direct contact with the sides. Unlike your fridge at home this does not circulate cold air into the interior. The sides of the unit are cooled by the refrigerant coils as far as I can tell. Overall we were very happy with how it performed and was way better than buying ice. Remember that when you turn your car off, the convenience outlets typically go dead, so leaving it in a hot car for hours could be problematic….
I got the 30 quart model last June. Ran it off house current first two weeks, varying temp settings and verifying with a separate thermometer. It kept temperature within +/- 5 degrees at all settings from 0 to 38, and would freeze a quart of water solid in 24 hours at 0 degrees. Then outside to my pickup camper in the driveway, using the camper's 12 volt 200Ah battery pack, which is charged by 3-100 watt solar panels on the camper roof. The cooler maintained 0 degrees for two weeks, keeping a quart of water frozen solid. The weather was perfect for 10 days, full sun overhead and no clouds. The Battery pack never fell below 65%. I used it on a 2 week camping trip in October, again in bright sun, but low. It maintained 10 degrees, routinely froze a quart of water in 24 hours, and kept my meat frozen solid. It took 8 days to drop my battery pack to 40%, which I used a small generator to recharge. It got pounded in the bed of my truck over rough dirt 2-track roads without problem. I really, really like this little cooler. I had to run my generator once for an afternoon on the 8th day
We were looking for a freezer for our travels and this one is perfect.
Used this cooler for 30 days straight and worked as it should. Didn’t drain the battery on my pickup when it was parked for multiple hot days either. I got my moneys worth.
